Assessment Process for the first batch has commenced

We started the assessment process for the first batch of students. This involves a phone interview with the Dean of the School, Dr. Sankaran Raghunathan. The interviews were scheduled between April 15th thru 19th and the Dean spent at least 30 minutes on the phone with each of the candidates shortlisted to know more about the candidates and to understand their application profile better. Based on this, the next step in the assessment process is now set to begin on April 27. Candidates have been asked to write a note on themselves; about 5 questions have been asked of them and a detailed essay is expected. These essays will help the assessment team to know about each candidate. Candidates will go through a detailed process of assessment for about 3 hours in the forenoon session of the assessment day, followed by a thorough interview for about 30 minutes with a panel of interviewers. The whole assessment exercise is being handled by a group of senior HR leaders in the industry.

We expect to complete the assessment exercise and be able to make the offer of admission by April 30, 2009.

  2. Hi friends. I am one of the applicants to NMS who completed the assessment process recently. Well the difference factor of NMS was evident by the way the process was structured and well organized. It wasn't another normal GD/PI session. Actually the assessment team consisted of experienced HR professionals who have actually designed the process. First we were given a case study which wasn't a usual scenario of an office situation but it was a real life crisis situation and each one of us was given time to justify our choices. Then we as a group had to discuss among ourselves and arrive at a consensus. During this time the HR professionals were constantly changing their positions and observing every one of us in detail. Then came the fun part, we as a group was given a task of building paper planes. Actually we had to act like an industry buying raw materials each of which was assigned a cost, estimate a target, and then test each of our product to satisfy the customer's requirement. So we had to plan a lot before we actually began to build the planes. Hard part was there is a time deadline to plan and to build the estimated target. This exercise was very exciting and it really built a bond between all of us. Then came the interview part, the panel comprised of the Dean of NMS and other two were HR professionals. They spent nearly half an hour on each candidates profile before calling the person for the interview. So that increased my anxiety but after the initial few minutes, I felt at ease talking to them. The talk was very candid and they listened patiently to all my answers. On the whole the assessment process was exciting throughout and the experience was worth it. So to other candidates and future applicants I would say "Come feel it for yourself". I forgot to mention that all of us were given a coffee mug with the NMS logo as a memento. So folks least a mug is assured to everyone. Now that the results have been announced I am glad to inform you all that I have been offered the admission to join NMS so now looking forward to the next two great years at the institute.
